Launch: Anti-Politics by Eliane Glaser

17 May @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join Repeater Books and Eliane Glaser to launch her new book, Anti-Politics. She will be in conversation with James Butler.

Recent years have seen a wave of populism and mistrust of politics across the political spectrum, encouraged and weaponised by Trump, Farage and Brexit. Anti-Politics: On the Demonization of Ideology, Authority and the State takes stock of the slow death of politics, and explores how it might be restored.

ELIANE GLASER was one of the first commentators to draw attention to the new wave of populism. Her last book, Get Real, predicted the rise of what we now call ‘fake news’. In Anti-Politics, she explains how we got here, and argues that, whatever the roots of our apathy and anger, we must re-centre unfashionable concepts like ideology, authority and the state in order to bring about radical change.

JAMES BUTLER is a writer and broadcaster, interested in left-wing thought and movements, especially in Europe, across the twentieth century and today. He co-founded Novara Media, where he is senior editor and presents Novara FM, a weekly radio show bringing together the intellectual and political left, and has written extensively on contemporary politics for publications in the UK and internationally.
