Nadia Attia’s Verge takes an uncanny road trip across a future disunited kingdom where the ghosts of horses run, Eliza Henry-Jones’ Salt & Skin dives into the witch trials and folklore of Scotland’s Northern Isles, and Patrick Langley’s The Variations, well, vibrates with a strange musical psychism rooted in the Cornish landscape, and moving outwards. Bios:
Nadia Attia’s debut novel Verge – a folk horror-tinged road trip across a divided, alternative Britain where people have returned to the old ways of spells and superstitions – was published by Serpent’s Tail in May 2023. She comes from a working-class background, has Egyptian-German heritage and is drawn to stories of otherness and the supernatural. She’s a BFI NETWORK Talent Executive, a published film journalist and a freelance film/TV script reader. In 2019 she was a participant of the London Writers Awards and won the FAB (Faber) prize for fiction.
Eliza Henry-Jones is an author, freelance writer and PhD candidate. She’s published five novels, which have been listed for award such as the Australian Book Industry Awards, Indie Awards, Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards, NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, QLD Literary Awards and the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction. Her writing has appeared in places such as The Big Issue, The Guardian, The Age and Country Style. She lives and works on a little flower farm in Australia, on Wurundjeri land. Her latest novel Salt and Skin is out now with September Publishing.
Patrick Langley's debut novel, Arkady (2018), was longlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize and the Deborah Rodgers Writers Award. His second novel, The Variations, is published in September 2023.
Tice Cin is an interdisciplinary artist from north London. She was named one of Complex Magazine’s best music journalists of 2021, and has written for places such as DJ Mag and Mixmag. A DJ and music producer, she is preparing to release an accompanying album for Keeping the House with a host of talented features. Keeping the House has been named one of Guardian’s Best Books of 2021, and has been featured in The Scotsman, The New York Times and the Washington Post.
