Launch: MINOR DETAIL by Abania Shibli: Fitzcarraldo Editions

6 May @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us for the launch of brand new Fitzcarraldo title MINOR DETAIL by Adania Shibli – this is the publisher’s first ever Arabic-language author. The book was originally published by al-Adab in 2017 and centers around a crime committed in the Palestinian Negev in August, 1949. Decades later, a young woman in Ramallah becomes obsessed with the events surrounding the crime. It is “an intricately layered and devastating work of fiction.”

Don’t miss this event with discussion and a reading from the author!

Adania Shibli was born in Palestine in 1974 and holds a PhD from the University of East London. Her first two novels have been translated into English as TOUCH (Clockroot Books, tr. Paula Haydar) in 2016 and WE ARE ALL EQUALLY FROM LOVE (Clockroot Books, tr. Paul Starkey) in 2012. She was awarded the Young Writer’s Award by the A M Qattan Foundation in 2002 and 2004. Shibli was also named one of the Beirut39, a group of the 39 most promising Arab writers under the age of forty, selected by the Hay Festival. Since 2013 she has been teaching at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies at Birzeit University in Palestine. She lives in Berlin.
