Ellena Savage’s series of essays begins with a powerful chapter on memory and accountability. Researching into an assault that happened more than a decade ago and finding the results of a trial where she was the victim. The essay asks us some very difficult questions about trusting one's own memory and what closure means. Does the pain subside? Does the context make it easier to bear?
Many of the essays question the authors own self-narrative and often she will criticize herself for the narrow scope of life she lives. Through that she contemplates different angles and what art and living means. And with this never claiming to have the be all end all perspective. Savage is open to being proven wrong and would perhaps be thankful to be.
