2024 marked the centenary of the birth of Britain’s most famous anarchist, Colin Ward, the author of more than 30 books, whose ideas and writings remain influential across the world.  His books include 'The Child in the City', 'Arcadia for All', 'Reflected in Water' and 'When We Build Again'. He wrote regularly for New Society and The New Statesman. His centenary is celebrated in a collection of essays by eighteen admirers, Mutual Aid, Everyday Anarchy: Essays on Colin Ward, Five Leaves Press, 2024, whose insights into Colin's work are the subject of this event.

Writers Sheila Rowbotham and Ken Worpole, both contributors to ‘Mutual Aid’, will recall their friendships with Ward and his influence on their own ideas and writings. Sheila Rowbotham’s new book, Reasons to Rebel is published this Autumn by Merlin Press, and Ken Worpole’s new collection of essays, Brightening from the East, will be published by Little Toller Books in Spring 2025. The evening will be hosted by Gareth Evans.
