Staff Pick! Emma says…
Love, Leda was written in the 60s by the late Mark Hyatt, published this year by Peninsula Press. It’s a diaristic account of a queer working-class drifter who journeys through Soho, sofa-surfing, cruising and getting a bit of work here and there. Leda is unattached to a home, job or partner but finds moments of comfort and intimacy among a community of gay men and divorced women. His voice is straightforward and endearing, allowing the reader to stay close behind his distant gaze and feel his loneliness in a city full of people.
