The relationship of fiction and biography has always rested on uneasy ground. The earliest novels often explored fantasies of the extreme to illuminate aspects of what was thought to be an eternal ‘human nature’. Later works sought to realistically depict the material world and the lives defined by it. More recently still, the omnipresence of media has forced a re-examination of the nature of representation of the self, the nature of identity, and conscious experience. For Intermittently Realistic Literature (IRL) the acclaimed writers Daisy Lafarge (Paul, Lovebug), Nadia de Vries (Thistle, Dark Hour), and Vijay Khurana (The Passenger Seat, forthcoming) come together with the essayist and historian Dr. Matthew Green (Shadowlands) and the writer William Kherbek (Ecology of Secrets, Fail Worse) to present works that explore the nexus of fiction, biography, and narrative creation. Special guest, the emerging London writer Peter Bloxham, will present new work for the occasion.
